Distinguishing Characteristics
  • Nine mucrones (or folds) on anterior margin.
  • Body length = 85 - 110 µm, longest toe = 30 µm.
Ecology
  • Among the most commonly reported species in Great Lakes.
Additional Notes
  • Trichocerca can use pedal glands to produce mucous secretions to attach to substrates. The secretions may also be an energetic mechanism to stay suspended in the water column.
