Name derivation:

“True curver” – True (Eu-) curver (campia)

Classification:

Eucampia  Ehrenberg  1839;  5 of 27 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Hemiaulales;  Family Hemiaulaceae

 

Morphology:

Cells aligned with wider edges forming the outside of a coiled filament.  Valve faces concave as seen in girdle view.

Similar genera:

Climacodium has longer ‘horns’ (elevations in contact with adjacent cells in a filament).

Hemiaulus has spines.

Habitat:

Marine.  At least one species (E. zodiacus) is common at all latitudes.
