Furrowed disc: Aulic (L.) = furrow
Classification:
Auliscus Ehrenberg 1843; there are 235 species of which 31 have been taxonomically accepted. Order Triceratiales; Family Triceratiaceae
Morphology:
Discoid centric unicellular diatoms with two conspicuous ‘ocelli’ at opposite ends of broadly ovid valve face. The remainder of the periphery of the valve is covered with broad costae. Cells are 40 – 48 µm in diameter.
