Classification:

Plagiotropis  Pfitzer 1871;  22 of 35 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Naviculales,  Family Plagiotropidaceae

 

Morphology:

Lanceolate valves <100μm long with an arched face..  Fine striae (26 – 30/10 μm parallel and perpendicular to the apical axis of the valve in the middle of the cell, more radiate toward the poles (Bahls 2012).

Habitat:

Freshwater alkaline streams, benthic.  Widespread.  Motile (gliding motility).
