Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Chlorangiella De Toni  1889;  9 of 10 described species are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry 2012).

Order Tetrasporales;  Family Chlorangiellaceae

 

Morphology:

Colonies elliptic or ovate, 3 – 19 µm, with branched or unbranched mucilaginous stalks up to 5 cells in length.  Biflagellate zoospores.  No sexual reproduction has been observed.

 

Similar genera:

Gloeocystis

 

Habitat:

Freshwater.  Epiphytic or epizootic
