Classification:

Dactylothece  Lagerheim  1883;  2 of 4 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Chlorococcales;  Family Coccomyxaceae

Morphology:

Colonies of non-flagellated cells each with one chloroplast, cells covered with stratified mucilage.

Similar genera:

May be a mucilaginous growth form of Stichococcus, Geminella, Coccomyxa or Palmogloea (Guiry 2013).

Habitat:

Terrestrial on damp bases of trees, wall and greenhouses.
