Classification:

Diplostauron  A.A.Korschikov  1925;  6 of 7 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and guiry 2013)

Order Chlamydomonadales; Family Chlamydomonadaceae

Considered to be a synonym of Lobomonas  P.A. Dangeard, by Pentecost (2011).

 

Morphology:

Biflagellate (isokonts) flattened or cylindrical unicells with four horns near each pole.

Habitat:

Freshwater in Australia, Europe, India and USA.
