Lobed flagellate

Classification:

Lobomonas  P.-A.Dangeard  1899;  12 of 15 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Chlamydomonadales;  Family Chlamydomonadaceae

Morphology:

Biflagellate spherical to ovoid and lobed unicells with an anterior papillum at the  flagellar insertion points and a cup-shaped chloroplast.

Similar genera:

Habitat:

Freshwater ponds and soil.  Widespread distribution.
