Cystoseira  C. Agardh  1820;  39 of 289 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Fucales;  Family Sargassaceae

Morphology:

Bushy thallus with perennial primary axes that are terete to flat and smooth to spiny, with alternate to irregular branches.  Monoecious with receptacles near tips of branchlets (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).

Habitat:

Marine subtropical, common in tide pools (Florida, the Bahamas, Caribbean, Red Sea and Indian Ocean (Ibid.)
