Distinguishing Characteristics
  • Postero-lateral facets on the dorsal surface of the lorica usually open.
  • No pustules present on lorica surface.
  • The anterior horizontal ridge of anteromedial facet is about the same length as the other ridges of the facet giving a distinctly hexagonal shape.
Ecology
  • Present in lakes from spring through fall.
Additional Notes
  • Can be confused with Keratella hiemalis.
  • Posterior spines can vary greatly in length.
  • If your specimen has a much reduced second posterior spine, please compare with Keratella valga.
