Classification:

Bodo  Ehrenberg  1832;  22 of 151 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2014).

Order Bodonales;  Family Bodonaceae

Considered a member of the Euglenozoa (Euglenoids) (Corliss 1994)

 

Morphology:

Colorless unicellular biflagellate cell.  Bodo has a long flagellum that the cell uses to attach to a substrate.  It also has a short anterior flagellum often not seen in the microscope because it remains close to the cell body.

Freshwater, widespread distribution.
