Cells appear as short or long filaments arranged in single rows.  Each cell is tubular in appearance.  The base of each semicell is wider near the cell’s slight central channel.  Each cell has one band-like chloroplast which holds one to eight pyrenoids (transparent structures).  The nucleus is located next to the chloroplast in the center of each cell.
