Morphology: |

Filaments of variable length. Cells are square to rectangle in side view with a deep isthmus (constriction). Placoderm desmid (two overlapping wall halves).

Similar genera: |

Other filamentous placoderm desmids have a slightly to moderately different cell shape in side view. |
||||
Habitat: |
||||
Tropical bogs or somewhat acidic and oligotrophis lakes, plankton, rare. One species extends as far north as boreal Canada.
