| Elongate bisymmetric cells 200-427 µm in length with truncate ends. Two or three spiraling band-like chloroplasts with may pyrenoids per cell (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

| At first glimpse similar to individual cells of Spirulina because of spiraling chloroplasts. | ||||
| Habitat:

| Somewhat acidic freshwater lakes. Reported only from North America and Eurasia, but rarely. | ||||
