Synonym: Crucigeniella, Dispora (at least in PhycoKey)
Synonym: Tetrapedia Reinsch 1866 is
retained in Crucigenia for lack of evidence
of differences.

Morphology:

||||
Colonies formed of groups of four individual cells
forming a square. The colony is usually flat and embedded in something.
Individual cells are oval or somewhat crescent in shape. |

Similar Genera:
|
||||
Lemmermannia and Tetrastrum are morphologically
similar and are not separated here, although they have been separated on the
basis of molecular genetics (Bock et al.
2013).

Habitat:

Freshwater.
