Name derivation:

 

 

Classification:

Gloeodendron  Korshikov  1916;  both species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Tetrasporales; Family Gloeodendraceae

Morphology:

Pseudofilamentous colony, can be as large as 115 cm long, cells embedded in copious mucilage, itself becoming laminated with age.

Habitat:

Freshwater epiliths or epiphytes.
