Order Sphaeropleales; Family Radiococcaceae

Synonym in Phycokey: Palmodactylon  Naegeli  1849, Order Chlamydomonadales, Family Hormotilaceae

Morphology:

Green spherical cells (4 – 7 μm diameter) embedded in mucilaginous pseudofilamentous (cylindrical) thallus (Wolle 1887). The cells divide within the matrix and vacated cell walls remain within the mucilage.

Habitat:

Freshwater.  Rare, in stagnant pools.
