Classification:

Schizochlamys  Braun ex Kützing  1849;  2 of 11 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Chaetopeltidales;  Family Chaetopeltidaceae

 

Morphology:

Spherical green cells embedded in copious mucilage forming an amorphous colony.  Walls of parental cells are retained and conspicuous within colonial mucilage.

Habitat:

Freshwater, somewhat acidic pools and bogs.
