Oedocladium  Stahl  1891; 14 of 17 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Oedogoniales;  Family Oedogoniaceae

Morphology:

Branched uniseriate green trichomes with rhizoidal semi-0colorless branches penetrating soil.  Green branches lis on soil surface with shorter cells that are wider in diameter.  Reticulate chloroplast with one or more pyrenoids.  Cell division at ends of trichomes of a type unique to members of the Oedogoniales.  Small multiflagellate sperms.

Habitat:

Terrestrial (moist soil), occasionally free floating in freshwater.  Uncommonly reported, mainly from USA but also from  Australia, Germany, India, Puerto Rico, and Bengal (Guiry and Guiry 2013).
