Classification:

Binuclearia Wittrock  1886;  2 of 11 species descriptions are currently recognized (Guiry 2012).

 

Morphology:

Green, unbranching filaments with cylindrical cells and several pyrenoids  May have a mucilaginous sheath.  Cells contain one parietal chloroplast. Cells tend to be widely separated within filament by viscous laminated mucilage excretions.

Habitat:

Periphyton in dystrophic water, often at considerable altitude.
