Morphology: |
||||
Green unbranched uniseriate
filaments (trichomes), and is a free-living organism, or it is attached at
the base by rhizoids. Cells are
cylindrical with flat, relatively thick plate-like walls, and has several
pyrenoids protein within or adjacent to reticulate chloroplasts. Cell size varies widely from 20 μm to
5 mm. Often forms extensive mats of
intertwined trichomes. Produces biflagellate gametes, some
repeat gametophytic stage parthenogenically.

Wide distribution in marine and
brackish sites, rarely in freshwater.
