Morphology:

Attached unbranched trichomes.  Cylindrical to barrel-shaped cells contain one parietal "wrap-around", "napkin-ring" chloroplast and one or more pyrenoids. Cell walls either thin or thick with H-shaped pieces and lamellate.Cross-walls are flat, providing maximal contact between adjacent cells.

Stichococcus has minimal contact between cells.

Habitat:

Grows attached on wet cliffs, damp soil, or stagnant water.  Common.
