Name derivation:

 

 

Classification:

 Batophora  J. Agardh, 1854;  2 of 5 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Class Ulvophyceae; Order Dasycladales; Family Dasycladaceae

 

Morphology:

 Siphonous unicell up to 10 cm long.  Persistent whorls of sterile hairs, upper ones bearing spherical gametangia.

 

Similar genera:

 Dasycladus; Chlorocladus.

 

Habitat:

Tropical oceans in shallow areas such as mangrove lagoons.
