Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Cymopolia barbata (L.) J.V. Lamouroux;  both of two species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Dasycladales; Family Dasycladaceae

 

Morphology:

 Siphonous (coenocytic) unicells, calcified, with dichotomous branches up to 20 cm long.  Many discoid chloroplasts.

Habitat:

Tropical oceans in shallow areas such as mangrove lagoons.
