Morphology: |

Biflagellate green unicells,
flattened, with insertion of flagella in a pit near the apical end. One chloroplast and an eyespot. With or without pyrenoids
(species dependent). Both the plasma
membrane and flagella are covered with at least one layer of organic scales,
the outer layer being large enough to be seen with the light microscope. |
