Pyramychlamys  H. Ettl and O. Ettl  1959;  9 of 10 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2014).

Order Chlamydomonadales;  famly Chlamydomonadaceae

Morphology:

Unicellular to ellipsoidal to nearly cylindrical and contain four flagella that are found on depression on the anterior of the cell. Contains a cell wall.

Asexual reproduction by zoosporogenesis which produces four motile daughter cells.

Similar genera:

Habitat:

Mostly found in marine waters but can be found in acidic ponds.

Requires a large concentration of nitrogen and a small concentration of phosphorous in order to have a bloom.
