Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Apodochloris  Komárek  1959;  currently 3 of 4 species descriptions are accepted.

Order Sphaeropleales;  Family Characiaceae

 

Morphology:

Solitary elongate cell 15 – 150 µm long and 1.5 – 14 µm wide, tapering to anterior and posterior ‘bristles’.  Both have two or more short ‘bristles’ at their distal end.

 

Similar genera:

Chlorococcum, Chlorochytrium, Tetracystis.

 

Habitat:

Can be found in empty Dinobryon loricas, the mucilage of Microcystis, and in terrestrial soil.
