Chaetosphaeridium  Klebahn  1892;  6 of 8 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Chaetosphaeridiales;  Family Chaetosphaeridiaceae

Morphology:

Shapes range from almost spherical to needles, often attached to a subtrate with a basal pad. Unicells containing chloroplasts.

Habitat:

Mostly freshwater but some species have been found in soils ranging from the artic to tropics.
