Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Chlorochytrium  Cohn, 1872; 6 of 24 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and guiry 2013).

Order Chlorococcales;  Family Chlorochytriaceae

 

Morphology:

Green non-flagellated unicells.  Globose to ellipsoid, large, up to 100 µm diameter.

 

Similar genera:

 

Habitat:

Endophytic, probably parasitic in other algae and aquatic plants such as Elodea, Sphagnum, Lemna and Potamogeton (Guiry 2012).
