Morphology:

Fusiform (filiform,
spindle-shaped, pointed ends) unicells either
curved or straight. One
chloroplast with or without pyrenoid.

Similar
genera:

Raphidonema forms
filaments but has a similar cell shape.
Given polymorphism, Kolliella may be synonymous with Raphidonema (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Habitat:

||||
A
variety of freshwater habits as either planktonic,
periphytic, epilithic, or
cryobiontic on snow and ice.
