Classification:

Pseudococcomyxa Korshikov  1953;  3 of 4 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Chlorellales;  Family Oocystaceae

 

Morphology:

Oval, fusiform or egg-shaped unicells approximately 3 by 12 μm, attached to planktonic substrates (debris for example) by a basal mucilaginous disc.  [No flagellated stage has been reported.]

 

Similar genera:

Chlorobion and Podohedriella are ‘comparable’ (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

 

Habitat:

Attached to planktonic particles in beat bogs and reservoirs; reported only from eastern Europe.
