Name derivation:

Classification:

Pseudomuriella N.Hanagata 1998;  all four species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Sphaeropleales;  Family Sphaeropleales

Morphology:

Spherical green unicells, diameter ~ 5 µm.

Similar genera:

Four marker genes were used to determine phylogeny among three morphologically similar genera formerly recognized as distinct (Fučíková et al. 2011a).  Dictyococcus schumacherensis and Bracteacoccus engadinensis are proposed to be moved to Pseudomuriella, making them synonyms (Fučíková et al. 2011b)

Habitat:

Soil.
