Morphology:
|
||||
Unicell with an
irregular outline, and usually 2 – 4 (rarely up to 20) spines on the
corners. Occurrence of numerous (>4)
spines may be the result of multiple successive mitotic divisions without cytokinesis (Guiry and Guiry 2013).
|
||||
Similar genera:
|
||||
Echinosphaerella and Tetraedron, as well as the chrysophycean
Bitrichia,
are morphologically difficult to separate from Treubaria species.
|
||||
Habitat:
|
||||
Freshwater
plankton, widespread.
|
