Name derivation:

 

 

Classification:

Cyclonexis  A.Stokes  1886;  all three species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2014).

Order Chromulinales;  Family Chromulinaceae or Ochromonadaceae Lemmerman 1899 (Kristiansen and Preisig 2001).

Morphology:

Colonies of 4-34 heterokont biflagellate cells arranged compactly side by side in a circle or ‘doughnut’ one cell thick, easily disrupted (low cohesion of cells).

Freshwater plankton.
