Morphology: |
||||
Colony with cells embedded in mucilage, in groups of four. Have cell walls and a stima (eyespot) but lack contractile vacuoles. Spherical when viewed from the top but ellipsoidal when viewed from the side. Two chloroplasts found in each cell. |

Similar genera: |

Dermatochrysis is similar, but has a contractile vacuole and lacks cell walls and stigma (Entwisle and Andersen 1990). |

Attached to submerged substrates in flowing water. |
