Morphology: |
||||
Small brown flakes macroscopically. Examined microscopically the organization of the thallus includes irregularly hollow aggregates, sometimes branched along the three dimensions of space. Cells rectangular or polygonal, sometimes more or less rounded, 10 – 18 µm long and 7 - 15 µm wide, with a thick membrane, likely not cellulose. Reproduction by cell division and formation of multiseriate ‘fronds’, as well as by production of uniflagellate zoospores with apical insertion of flagellum. Palmelloid stages can be produced by zoospores (Conrad 1914) as reviewed by Pascher (1925). |
