Morphology: |
||
Photosynthetic parallel untapered trichomes embedded in a common mucilage sheath. Individual trichomes have no sheath. Intercalary heterocysts are surrounded on both sides by short series of akinetes. |

The non-heterocyte-bearing Microcoleus also has bundles of parallel trichomes embedded in a common sheath. |
