Erythropsidinium P.C. Silva  1960;  4 of 5 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2017)

Order Gymnodiniales;  Family Warnowiaceae

 

 

Morphology:

Unicellular biflagellate 50 – 120 μm long with a prominent ocelloid near the apex.  Sulcus is a straight line on hyposome and spirals once or twice in episome.  No chloroplasts.  The ocelloid has a lens and a retinal body (pigment cup). Apiston can extend and retract 200 μm, several times per second (Ibid.).
