Name derivation

 

Classification:

Tetradinium Klebs  1912;  4 of 5 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Phytodiniales;  Family Phytodiniaceae

At least some species have been moved to Gymnodinium, e.g. T. chiastosporum is now G. chiastosporum (Lewis and Dodge, 2011).
