Hincksia J.E. Gray 1864; 31 of 45 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Ectocarpales; Family Acinetosporaceae

Synonyms (Kim and Lee 1994): Acinetospora, Feldmannia, Kuetzingiella

Morphology:

Uniseriate branched filaments with intercalary cell division. Many disc-shaped parietal chloroplasts per cell.

Marine, widespread, entangled in drift on all coasts (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).
