Nemacystus Derbès & Solier 1850;  8 of 15 species descriptions are currently accepted Taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Ectocarpales;  Family Chordariaceae

 

Morphology:

Erect thallus up to 40 cm high, attached with a small discoid holdfast.  Diplontic via spores from Plurilocular sporangia or diplohaplontic via spores from unilocular sporangia (Ibid.).  Soft and mucilaginous, abundant branching.  Epiphytic or attached to limestone (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).
