Name derivation:

 

Classification:

 Rosenvingea Børgesen  1914;  7 of 10 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Ectocarpales;  Family Scytosiphonaceae

 

Morphology:

Bushy thallus up to 30 cm tall. Axes slightly compressed and hollow, 0.3 – 1.5 mm diameter.  Surface cells have hairs.  Plurilocular sporangia are stalked, 3-4 cells, 14 µm wide, in sori scattered on thallus surface (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).

Florida, Bermuda, North Carolina, the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Mediterranean, eastern tropical Atlantic, Red Sea, Indo-Pacific and Australia (Ibid.).
