Stichogloea  Chodat  1897;   4 of 6 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Morphology:

Colonies of groups of 4 spherical cells, each with one or two parietal chloroplasts.  Asexual division by forming autospores and biflagellate zoospores.

Habitat:

Plankton in freshwater alpine and northern lakes.
