Classification:

Amphiroa  J.V. Lamouroux  1812;  54 of 229 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Corallinales;  Family Corallinaceae

 

Morphology:

Small thalli up to 5 cm tall, calcified, light pink in color, attached with crust-like holdfasts.  Dichotomously branched mostly at joints, in one plane, branches often recurved (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).

Habitat:

Marine, subtropical to tropical, widespread, reported from Florida, the Carolinas, Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico,  eastern North and South Atlantic, Lesser Antilles, the Cribbean, Brazil, Uruguay, Mauritius and Australia. (Ibid.).
