Name derivation:

(Gr.) bryo moss-like; thamnion small bush

Classification:

Bryothamnion  Kützing  1843;  3 of 11 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Morphology:

Erect thallus up to 20 cm tall with dense short stiff branches.  Branches cylindrical or flattened, simple to pinnate (Ibid.).

Habitat:

Subtidal in semitropical to tropical shores (Ibid.).
