Name derivation:

Classification:

Callithamnion  Lyngbye 1819;  90 of 427 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Subphylum Florideophyceae;  Order Ceramiales;  Family Callithamniaceae

 

Morphology:

Erect, up to 10 cm tall, with irregular branching, multinucleate cells (Ibid.)

Similar genera:

Antithamnion is considered a synonym by some authors.

Habitat:

Widespread and common in most habitats (Ibid.)
