Name derivation:

Italian botanist Aloysio Fortunato Naccari

Classification:

Naccaria  Endlicher 1836

Subclass Florideophyceae; Order Bonnemaisoniales; Family Naccariaceae

 

Morphology:

Bushy, erect with terete axes, to 7 cm tall.  Gelatinous, tapered, attached with holdfasts.

Gametophytes are monoecious or dioecious.  Spermatangia cluster at the base of lateral axes (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).

Similar genera:

Habitat:

Rare.  Reported from North Carolina, Florida, Bermuda and the Salvage Islands (Ibid.).
