Pseudotriatella  S.Sato, D.G. Mann and L.K.Medlin 2008;  the holotype species P. oceanic is the only species description, and it is currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Morphology:

Colony of araphe pinnate diatoms, cells attached with mucilage pads at valve poles usually forming a zig-zag pattern (cf. Tabellaria), occasionally unicell, observed almost exclusively in girdle view due to several girdle bands that broaden the girdle into a rectangular outline.  Each cell has multiple discoid chloroplasts

Similar genera:

Striatella has a single reticulate chloroplast.

Habitat:

Marine plankton, widespread.
