Brachysira Kützing  1836; currently 97 of 112 species descriptions are accepted (Guiry 2012).

Order Naviculales;  Family Brachysiraceae.

Morphology:

Unicellular symmetric bivalve 4-9 µm wide and 15-45 µm long, rhombic-lanceolate, straight raphe, striae punctuate with 9-12 punctae per 10 µm.
