Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Tetmemorus  Ralfs ex Ralfs  1848;  5 of 52 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomicall (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Desmidiales;  Family Desmidiaceae

 

Morphology:

Green unicells variable in length, tapering toward each end, with only a slight indentation at the isthmus.  Incised deeply at each end.  Two chloroplasts (one in each hemicell), stellate in cross-section, extending the length of hemicell.  One or more pyrenoids along each chloroplast.

Similar genera:

 

Habitat:

Sphagnum bogs, or lakes with Sphagnum on the shoreline.
